Poultry science was taught at Ohio State University as early as its founding in 1873. The department of Poultry Husbandry was formed out of the Department of Animal Husbandry in 1920, and later became known as the Department of Poultry Science. As of 1996, the department dissolved and became part of the Department of Animal Sciences. The Ohio State University, Department of Poultry Science Records contains extensive correspondence files and various administrative files and publications dealing with poultry production, egg auctions, the Agriculture Extension Service and the Ohio Agricultural Experiment Station. The materials are dated 1906-2002.

It also contains files on the Agriculture Extension Service and the Ohio Agricultural Experiment Station. The collection dates from 1906 to 2002.

Poultry science was taught at Ohio State University as early as its founding in 1873. The first university poultry farm was built in 1913 on the Columbus campus, although poultry courses were also taught on the Wooster campus through the Agricultural Experiment Station. The department of Poultry Husbandry was formed out of the Department of Animal Husbandry in 1920, and later became known as the Department of Poultry Science. The department worked extensively with the Agricultural Extension Service. The Department existed until 1996. As of 2019, poultry science courses were facilitated through the Poultry Center and the Poultry Research Center by the Department of Animal Sciences.
