    Biographical / Historical Note

The Ohio State University began offering courses in agriculture at its founding in 1870. In 1896, six colleges were formed out of the University’s schools, officially establishing a College of Agriculture and Domestic Science, later known as just the College of Agriculture. In 1958, the Board of Trustees changed the name to the College of Agriculture and Home Economics, joining the two areas of study. The College of Home Economics was separated from the College of Agriculture again in the 1980s. A Secretary of the College of Agriculture existed as a leadership role in the college as early as 1914.
