    Biographical / Historical Note

The Engineering Experiment Station was established in 1913 to help the State of Ohio with restructuring Columbus after the “Great Flood” swept through and killed four hundred people, damaging property, roads, and buildings along the way. It's purpose was to research new data, scientific methods, and engineering topics.

The Engineering Experiment Station was designated its own building, which was erected in 1925 on Ohio State University’s main campus. Departments within the Engineering Experiment Station Building included the Transportation Engineering Center, Metals Research, System Research, Chemical Research, Ceramic Research, the Building Research Laboratory, the Water Resources Center, and Community Development. In the year 1968, Ohio State University renamed the Engineering Experiment Station Building to Haskett Hall, after the late and first photography professor of Ohio State, Frank Haskett. After the name change, Haskett Hall was dedicated to the Ohio State University Department of Photography and Cinema, no longer housing the Engineering Experiment Station. The Engineering Experiment Station changed its location to Bolz Hall.

As of 2017, the Engineering Experiment Station collaborates with different departments in Ohio State University as well as Ohio companies and manufacturers to allow graduate and undergraduate students to conduct research. The Engineering Experiment Station hosts two different forums: the Denman Undergraduate Research Forum and the Hayes Graduate Research Forum. Both are built to showcase engineering students’ work and encourage research.
