This interview was a part of a series of polar oral histories sponsored by the American Polar Society and Ohio State University’s Byrd Polar Research Center Archival Program, with funding from the National Science Foundation. Major topics discussed include Schindler’s early life, how he got involved with his work in Alaska, his efforts as an administrative scientist, the relationship Naval Arctic Research Laboratory held with the United States Navy and Air Force, how the ARLIS polar ice stations were used, his work with Husky Oil, and his family life while living in Barrow, Alaska.
