STC 6430. Day, Richard. A booke of Christian prayers, collected out of the auncie[n]t writers, and best learned in our tyme. 4°. London: John Day, 1581.

BV245 .D35 1581
Notes: Contains three mss. pages inserted at the beginning of the book that identify the “Dance of Death” theme in some of the woodcut illustration borders with the work of Hans Holbein the Younger. The hand of these additions appears to be 18th century. According to Kathleen Kennedy's John Day research,
The evidence of use in this volume deserves notice. A scholarly reader in 1749 filled both flyleaves as well as margins
throughout the text with notation. This researcher inscribed a plethora of notes concerning Day’s position in Elizabethan
printing, and gives a full analysis of the iconic program of the border-narratives. The bibliographer was
particularly interested in attributing inspiration for the border-designs to Hans Holbein, and one might imagine this
persion having added the engraving of Holbein to the verso of the third flyleaf. Aside from a single manacule on Ll3v, the
remaining traces of use all fall into Type I marginalia. 2r bears a practice alphabet. “Thomas Garson” wrote his name
twice, once on P3v and again on Ee4v.
