Beverly McDonald is Principal Cataloger and Coordinator, Western Languages Section. She is also the Cataloging Department’s primary trainer of new staff. She does complex original cataloging of books and serves as a cataloging and classification resource for all catalogers and staff in the Cataloging Department and for people and areas outside of the Department.
Theresa Wei catalogs newly received books in English. She does original cataloging for titles not yet in OCLC’s WorldCat, and she also uses records for titles that are already in WorldCat. She also “enhances” or updates OCLC records, in cases where records are incomplete or incorrect. She also catalogs Government Documents and non-OSU theses.
Vera Enesey works with mostly German and Italian monographs, but also catalogs materials in Dutch, Latin, Hungarian, Icelandic, and the Scandinavian languages (Danish, Norwegian, and Swedish). Most of her materials require original cataloging, but she also enhances OCLC records.
Vera also works with materials that come in series but are cataloged individually, often referred to as “cat as mono,” meaning “catalog as a monograph.” She often works with members of SRI and Serials/Electronic Resources so that the series information is kept up-to-date for accurate checking-in when first received.
Lisa Chiong catalogs French, Spanish and Portuguese monographs. She does original and copy cataloging. She also works with “cat as monos” in these languages.
Jim Whitcomb is responsible for copy cataloging and original cataloging of new print and electronic monographs. He also updates incomplete records for older materials and makes sure that they are added to WorldCat. Other duties that he performs include cataloging print materials for the regional campuses, cataloging freely available electronic books on request by collection managers, and loading vendor-created bibliographic records for electronic books and miscellaneous other electronic resources into OSCAR.
Vickie FitzGerald is responsible for copy cataloging and original cataloging of materials in nonbook formats. This includes video recordings, sound recordings, computer files, microforms, maps and atlases, preservation replacement copies (paper and film), and occasionally streaming videos and online maps. She performs the same duties for OSU regional campus libraries.
Christina Moore is responsible for cataloging new analytics in Western and Slavic languages and materials in languages that are not covered by other staff members. Analytics are materials that are individually titled issues of serials—they are received as serials and included on the serial bibliographic record but they also receive individual bibliographic records as if they are monographs. Christina also catalogs “regular” monographs, and does complex copy cataloging as well as original cataloging. She is also involved with special projects that require updating and replacing records for older materials that require treatment as analytics. Christina also writes documentation for Connexion (OCLC’s cataloging interface) and Millennium (the staff side of OSCAR), as wells as for general cataloging procedures and facilitates the training of other staff members and practicum students. She also assists the regional campus catalogers in their cataloging.
