Learning Objectives

Students will:

  1. Understand the purpose of copyright and fair use.
  2. Learn about tools that help to identify works that may be used for remixes.
  3. Learn ways to document findings during the information gathering process.
  4. Learn about tools that make the citing process easier.
  5. Begin to format their own Cited Works page.

Pre-class Readings

Ask students to read the following tutorial before class. Each tutorial includes practice activities and self-test questions, and requires about 30 minutes to complete. A graded multiple-choice quiz in Carmen is also available for instructors to use on request.

Focus: Create your own Works Cited page
Duration: as long as you wish
Overview: Have students bring their work in progress and use OhioLINK or Son of Citation to format the materials they are using in their paper and copy and paste these formatted items into their own cited works page. If you devote enough time, students can also use the time to research more items for their paper, and perhaps format those citations as they collect them.
