Untenured faculty writing group

This page is a landing page for untenured faculty at OSUL. In an effort to support one another and our common experiences, we've agreed to use this forum to share resources and to set up small working groups, and anything else we think would be useful.

Upcoming events

  • Fall quarter 07: Nov. 15th 11:30-1 SEL 090 -- ORRP representative to discuss IRB process for research
  • Spring quarter 08: to be determined

If you have ideas for presentations, please contact Rebekah Kilzer

Resource list

Include here any books, articles, etc., that you've found useful in getting started with your writing, staying motivated, help for specific kinds of writing, etc. (We can always move this to a new page, or separate it into sections, so go ahead and do whatever you think make sense.)

Books

  • Publish & flourish: become a prolific scholar by Tara Gray. ISBN: 0-9769302-0-X
Ordering info: go to http://www.teaching.nmsu.edu/Resources/bookstore/index.html. Scroll down to bottom of page for link to order form.
Why this was useful: Rocki highly recommended this book as a good, easy to read, general guidebook for writing and publishing.
  • Writing for Academic Journals by Rowena Murray. ISBN: 0-335-21392-8
Why this was useful: Beth Black highly recommends this book because of its practical, task oriented approach. Throughout the book, Murray offers writing prompts, activities and common-sense advice for each stage of the writing process for busy academics, from idea generation through final revisions.
Ordering: I purchased the book from [Amazon] but I'm sure there are other sources. - Beth
