Blog: Faddish Buzzword or Effective Communication Tool?
Yesterday's hot Internet buzzword was "web portal." Portals were destined to be the next big thing-- but they weren't! Canned content went against the grain of the serendipitous nature of the web.
Will blogs go the way of the portal?
I find the concept of a blog to be not nearly as annoying as that of a portal. Granted, does anyone really care what some random blogger had for dinner last night? Probably not, but some blogs are being used for more constructive purposes, such as the Libraries' Staff Move Blog (staff access only).
If one can get past the somewhat ridiculous sound of the word blog, one may view them as effective communication tools-- due to evolving content and at times fun-to-read reader-added comments.
Yes, blogs appear here to stay.
