The Quick Brown Fox Jumps Over the Lazy Dog's Back : a literary analysis
The origins of this text go back in time to at least the earliest QUIRTY typewriters (c.1865). It contains all 26 letters of the English version of the Latin alphabet. But what are its deeper meanings? Who is the QBF (Quick Brown Fox) ? Who is the LD (Lazy Dog)? And What are the QBF's motivations for jumping? And for that matter, the LD's passivity?
The Quick Brown Fox
The QBF himself may refer to George Fox, 17th century author of Fox's Book of Christian Martyrs (various editions). His anti-Jacobite political asperations included a protoantidisestablishmentarian platform that would be comfortable to a later 20th century American conservative.
The Lazy Dog
Calling an English monarch a "dog" in any age would be a dangerous undertaking, but in the Restoration it would be particulary unwise. As an example:
| Name | Title | Social Standing |
|---|---|---|
| Charles | Ruler of His Domain | Top Dog |
| George | Subject of His Domain | Dog Food |
