N.S. No. 6 August 1982
Non-Roman Alphabet Analytics Analytic cards for Chinese series and Hebrew series in the Main Library Public Catalog will remain. New cards for numbers in these series will be filed in the Chinese and Hebrew public catalogs with linkage information cards provided for each catalog and for the Main Library Public Catalog. Analytic cards for Arabic series will be pulled from the Main Library Public Catalog, updating any entries necessary and re filed in the Arabic Catalog (2 series being analyzed at present). There will no longer be analytics for Arabic titles in the Main Library Public Catalog, nor new titles in Chinese and Hebrew language series. Any Cyrillic, Greek, Japanese or Korean analytics will be romanized and follow the procedures for Roman language analytics. Materials in Korean are to be processed if copy is available with basic materials cataloged after search and input through OCLC. The remainder without copy will be sent to a Pre-Cat location until assistance is available or a request for a title is received.
It is no longer necessary to put green removal slips in the Public Card Catalog unless it is certain that the catalog cards are to be refiled. It is less of a problem to refile main entries without removal slips than to check on "old" removal slips which have been left under the incorrect entry and wrong call number. Book orders for items with "Send Direct" indication be put on LCS as are other orders. The record on LCS will be deleted after the material is received. This will include map orders. Use of the stamp "SEE SERIAL RECORD" will be discontinued on serials shelf list cards. The note "FOR HOLDINGS, SEE SERIAL HOLDINGS FILE ON LCS" appears on all recently cataloged serials and will be used on any replacement cards. This note replaces the stamp "SEE SERIAL RECORD" used on shelf list cards and the stamp "APPLY FOR VOLUME DESIRED" used on catalog cards. Library Personnel checking the shelf list file for serials should look for either the stamp and/or the note. Subject authority slips are to continue to be made for manual cataloging of non- Roman materials. The slips will be filed in a separate Subject Authority file for future use for LCS cross references. The shelf list cards for "M" classification copied from the Music Library shelf list have been stamped MUSIC and interfiled with the regular shelf list. When the Music Library cards were xeroxed, any notes, special instructions and temporary slips were reproduced so if problems are found, put a check filing slip in front of the card and report the problem to the Bibliographic Records Division.
