We have many trials of electronic resources ongoing at present. We are also being flooded with offers from print publishers particularly those offering large microform sets. As is common in sales, they are offering deals tied to their company's internal deadlines and fiscal needs. Unfortunately, with the uncertainty of the state and OhioLINK budgets until after the Nov. election, I am holding what cash I have available should we have another mid-year budget reduction. So, I will not be making much central money available for these purchases until later in the fiscal year.
The next Collection Managers' Forum will be Nov. 20, 10-11:30. The forum will feature two speakers from Penn State who have implemented shelf-ready approval processing. The first will be Bonnie MacEwan, Assistant Dean for Collections. The second speaker will be Linda Musser, Head, Mineral and Earth Sciences Library. I look forward to an invigorating and productive discussion of this issue.
Things continue to go well with the many projects throughout technical services -- Pinyin conversion, processing of material into the depository, etc. I am sure the department heads will provide more details of those projects and their status.
