Serial Cataloging Projects

1.   Subscription Status Coding

Summary: From list of titles supplied by Collection Managers, update field 08 in continuation order records for "1" highest priority to "3" lowest priority. Codes completed for BOS, CGA, EAS-C, UND, PHA, REF, HIS, MUS, EES, WEL. Estimated ½ of collection managers have not assigned coding.

Status: Current to date


2.   De-duping Serial Retrocon Records

Summary: 8,200+ suppressed full bibs with no attached records to be de-duped. Of these, 3,970 bibs consist of holdings currently in MAI or items previously in MAI and then transferred to STX.

Status: Working with Tony Maniaci and Circ. staff to move items to appropriate bibs and unsuppress bib records.


3.   OhioLINK Major Microforms Project

Summary: Add item records for each title in each series. Add local notes (590) to bib records if reels contain more than one volume. Link item records to multiple bibs if reels contain more than one title.

     American Periodicals Series 18th century: completed
     American Periodical Series 1800-1850: completed
     Early English Newspapers: 933 titles to be done

Status: Working on Early English Newspapers


4.   Serial Card Retrocon

Summary: 359 Serial titles from the card catalog with short records on OSCAR; not overlayed by OCLC retrocon records. Will need to be manually searched on OCLC again for copy. If none found, will need original cataloging.

Status: Thanks to Jennifer Kuehn and ILL staff who have searched and prioritized 135 titles in terms of OSUL holdings. Next step is to follow through with processing.


5.   Convert Lib Has "Split" Locations

Summary: Update all current Lib Has check-in records with "Split" as location into individual Lib Has statements with 3-letter location code. 7,000 + to be completed for OSUL.

Status: Assistance from TSAA staff as time permits


6.   PKO Titles

Summary: Titles sent as Loc Controlled Gifts to be cataloged for SEL from the former Perkins Observatory library. These are photocopies of title pages. 159 titles to be cataloged.

Status: As time permits, process as Loc Controlled Gifts.


7.   John A. Flory Collection

Summary: Approximately 88 serial titles to be inventoried against Flory holdings list, reviewed by Wes for retention decision, possibly cataloged and sent to STX. Titles stored in Precat.

Status: Student assistant from SER currently working on inventory.


8.   Other Collections

Summary: Alvin J. Reiss Collection to be cataloged; Arnold S. Johnson Collection to be cataloged for STX.
   Reiss collection: 60 titles stored in room 022 to be cataloged and processed.
   Johnson collection: 33 titles on hand to be cataloged and processed. Cat. Dept. continues to forward serial titles to SER as they encounter them in their backlog.

Status: Lower priority; as time permits.


9.   Microform Titles

Summary: 148 titles to be cataloged for MIC.

Status: On Hold


10.   American Psychological Association Titles

Summary: Indexed and back-file issues of 150 serial titles published from 1985-1995 and 1996-1999. Seventy titles require original cataloging, the remainder needs copy cataloging.

Status: 1 title requiring original cataloging completed; 14 titles completed for copy cataloging


11.   Government Documents

Summary: We are providing short bib records for current receipts to expedite check-in while continuing to work on titles in our backlog. We are also working on microfiche titles as time permits. The move of USDA documents to AGI Library is presently on hold.
