Office Collections
DMSC and the OhioLINK Steering Committee have discussed the question of how office collections should be handled in OSCAR. Titles purchased for office collections fall into two categories: those made available to the public and those not made available to the public. This distinction affects the way these should be handled.
1. Titles made available to the public
If the title is to be made accessible to the public, even though it may be housed in a non- public area such as Technical Services, it should be available for public view on OSCAR from the point it is ordered. The Acquisition Department will assume that all orders are to be displayed to the public (with the exception of approval rejections) unless otherwise noted on the Materials Request Form.
The location housing the material must also make decision about whether the title should be cataloged or uncataloged and whether its status should allow circulation or not. The information about cataloging should also be noted on the Materials Request Form. The circulation status should be appropriately adjusted by the location when the material is received in that location.
2. Titles not made available to the public
If the title is not going to be accessible to the public, it should be suppressed from public view on OSCAR from the point it is ordered. The Materials Request Form should be marked SUPPRESS.
The location housing the material must also make a decision about whether the title should be cataloged or uncataloged. Cataloging may not be necessary for material not made available to the public. This decision should be noted on the Materials Request Form.
