I have just received the fixed fee pricing estimate for the Cataloging portion of the Ohionet account. The bad news: the expenses for FY01 will be approximately $18,000 more than in FY00. The good news: the increase would be much higher had we not received so much credit to offset the increases. These estimates are based on the past three years of activities (not just the previous year). In short, this pricing estimate reflects the expenses we incur during the course of using OCLC for cataloging as well as the credits we earn for activities such as original cataloging, database record enhancement, and deletion of holdings. These are not the only OCLC/Ohionet costs (we also have other expenses such as ILL, telecommunications, TechPro) but this is one component of the funds we spend to provide bibliographic control of library materials.
