Technical Services Memorandum
N.S. 1992-2 February 12, 1992
THE SHELVING OF MICROFORM GUIDES IN MICROFORMS ROOM, MAIN LIBRARY
I. New Cataloguing Policy
All guides that accompany microform sets in the Main Library will be sent to Microforms (MIC), unless a collection manager chooses to duplicate the tool. The exception to this policy is the Black Studies Library, which has its own microform collection.
II. Expected Impact on Users
- Users will benefit from having the bibliographic guides near the collections of microfilm and will not have to hunt all over the Main Library in order to track down the appropriate guide.
- These guides are much less likely to become lost if they are all retained in a single location adjacent to the microfilm.
III. Expected Impact on Library
- . The only financial impact on the Libraries would be the need, in selected cases, to order duplicate guides for the reading rooms.
- By having all guides sent to MIC along with the microform sets, cataloging procedures should be streamlined, with less time spent on determining where to send the accompanying guides.
- Public service to patrons should be enhanced, since the guides will be housed near their respective microform sets.
