McAfee - Which DAT File Am I Running on and How Do I Manually Update It?
A. First, you need to check and see which DAT file your pc is currently running on:
- Right click on the McAfee Virus Shield icon on your system tray:
- From the resulting pop up menu, left click on about:
- Look at the last 4 digits of the information on the "Virus definitions" line. This number indicates the DAT file your pc is running on. Make note of this number, and then click OK to close this window:
If, according to information from IT (or me), this is the most recent DAT file available, you're finished! If it is not the most recent DAT file available, you need to manually update your McAfee. Please note: Our pcs should be automatically updating this file. If you have to consistently run this manual update, let me know, something needs to be tweaked.
B. To Manually update your McAfee:
Go to Windows Explorer and then navigate around to:
T:\McAfee\Autoupdate (all of this will be displayed in the left side of the Windows Explorer window). At this point, the right side of the window will display the contents of the Autoupdate folder, locate the file named superdat.exe and double click on it. The update program will begin, click on "next" when you're given this as a choice. When it's finished, click on Finish, and you're done!
