Nota Bene:
Implementation Date:
- Connexion 1.72 will be available as a Zen App on your desktop on [date]. Please only install the update using the Zen App.
- Connexion 1.6 will no longer be available after April 14, 2007
Preserving Your Macros and Text Strings:
The installation of Connexion 1.72 will overwrite your existing macros and text strings. If you want to save your macros and/or text-strings, you must take the following steps before you run the installation for version 1.72:
- Open Windows Explorer
- Go to your My Documents folder and create a new folder labeled ConnexionSettings.
- Go to C:\Program Files\OCLC\Connexion\Program\ and copy the entire Macros folder into the folder you created above. (Note: this is on your C: drive, not on the network drive.)
- Go to C:\Documents and Settings\[yourname.number]\Application Data\OCLC\Connex\Profiles\ and copy the entire folder labeled MyProfile into the ConnexionSettings folder you created.
- Run the install for version 1.72
- Copy the MyProfile folder from your My Documents folder back to C:\Documents and Settings\[yourname.number]\Application Data\OCLC\Connex\Profiles\. Say Yes if prompted about whether or not you want to overwrite the files.
- Copy the Macros folder from your My Documents folder back into C:\Program Files\OCLC\Connexion\Program\. Again, say Yes if prompted about whether or not you want to overwrite the files.
Changes:
Toolbar:
- A search bar has been added allowing users to conduct bibliographic searches without accessing the search dialog box.
- A textstring/user tool function has been added to the tool bar, allowing users to access these functions without having to open a dialog box (using the nudge buttons instead).
- While these new toolbar features can not be turned off, they can be moved to a different area on the screen and arranged so that they occupy only one line. This new feature does limit the number of icons that can be displayed on the toolbar.
Searching other Library Catalogs:
- The "Find in a library" command allows users to view records as they appear in various library catalogs. This is useful when assigning subject headings and call numbers, particularly when records have holdings set, but are not completely updated in Worldcat. (View ==> Find in a library)
Authority Searching:
- It is now possible to search the Authority Record History files. This means that a user can see older (read only) versions of active authority records for names and subjects. The search qualifier for this type of search is "me:". (Authorities ==> Browse or Search ==> LC Names and Subjects History)
Miscellaneous Changes:
- Metadata can be automatically extracted for MP3 files inserting the data into a sound recording workform.
- It is now possible to input Devanagiri and Thai script. (However, no macro allowing for the automatic transliteration from Romanized to vernacular script is available for these languages).
- It is also possible to view and edit vernacular Arabic, Hebrew and Persian characters aligned from right to left, rather than from left to right. (View ==> Align Right)

Bugs and Glitches:
- Something has gone wrong with the export dialog box. When a record is exported the hour glass displays until the user either double clicks on the dialog box or minimizes the program. Pressing the "enter" key closes the dialog box completely and may be the easiest way around this glitch. The bad news is that this is the way version 1.72 is and there are no immediate plans to fix this problem. The good news is that the problem will be corrected in version 2.0.
