THE OHIO STATE UNIVERSITY LIBRARIES
MEMORANDUM

Subject:Review of Current Allocations
Date:February 13, 2001
From:Carol P. Diedrichs, Assistant Director for Technical Services and Acting Assistant Director for Collection Management
To:Collection Managers

As promised earlier this fiscal year, I would like to reassess the current allocations within the materials budget. In particular, our focus the last 4+ years has been on sustaining the purchasing power of the serials budget. As a result, allocations to the monograph budgets have remained virtually unchanged.

In consultation with CAC, I have developed the following process for reassessment. Each collection manager is required to complete a brief report on the individual disciplines in their areas of responsibility including funding patterns. Even if you do not require additional funding, a report must be submitted. The individual reports should be structured in the same manner as the funds in the materials budget. For example, Business has three fund codes/areas -- Business, Economics, and Public Policy and Management. There should be a separate report for each fund. This brief report must address the following questions:

Brief History of the Discipline at Ohio State
Brief History of the Collection at the Ohio State University Libraries
Cooperative Collection Development Efforts within CIC/OhioLINK
History of Funding for the Collection
Immediate Needs
Request for Additional Funding

The report should be no longer than 2 pages. A sample report is attached.

Budget information - the Administrative Services Department has sent to you budget overviews for each subject area. If you need additional copies, please contact Carol Diedrichs at diedrichs.1@osu.edu.  A sample report is attached.

Schedule - in order to assess these requests and recommend new budget allocations, the brief reports are due by 5:00 p.m., on Monday, April 2, 2001. They should be submitted in electronic form to Carol Diedrichs at diedrichs.1@osu.edu.
