SUBJECT: Appointment to Renovation Working Group on Main Stacks Collection

By this memo, I am appointing you to serve as the Executive Committee lead to the Renovation Working Group on Main Stacks Collection. As lead you may either chair the working group or appoint another member of the group to that position. The other members of the working group, appointed by this memo, are:
Mel Ankeny, Information Services Department
Magda El-Sherbini, Cataloging Department
Nancy Helmick, Information Technology Division
Guo-qing Li, Language and Area Studies
Tony Maniaci, Circulation Department
Graham Walden, Information Services Department
The charge to the Renovation Working Group on Main Stacks Collection is as follows:
- Evaluate main stacks collections and establish anticipated sizes for each subject area (using call number ranges generally)
- Develop plan for weeding each section to meet size projections including growth factors
- Calculate growth rate and factor that into projections
- Evaluate current capacity for selecting and transferring this volume of material by deadlines
- Evaluate options for expanding processing capacity to reach the 500,000 goal
- Create options and plans for how additional staff would be used to manage the processing of material into STX
- Review existing technical services projects and priorities and recommend changes as needed
- Identify resources needed to meet recommendations
The deadlines which have been established for the working group are as follows:
Interim report due -February 1, 2003
Address additional staffing option and technical services priorities -April 1, 2003
