Discussion of the CIRM conference call had been planned for the CAC meeting scheduled for February 11. With that meeting having been cancelled, this summary of the conference call is posted to encourage and facilitate discussion.
The powerpoint slides for the call are available for download from http://library.osu.edu/staff/collections-advisory-council/secure/CIRM0210.ppt (passworded for ostaff; please contact Henry Griffy for the password, if needed).
A substantial portion of the meeting discussed ebooks. Gale, Oxford, Cambridge, Scarecrow, Ingram, Elsevier, and others want OhioLINK to take the plunge and spend money. I specifically want to call to your attention to the content of slides 6, 7, and 8 that show OhioLINK's print copy purchasing history for Cambridge, Scarecrow, and (via Ingram) Yale UP and U Chicago P for 2007, 2008, and 2009. The decreasing number of print copies would suggest that the "multiplier" used in any deal Cambridge ebook deal, for example, would be less than what Cambridge would like. OSUL encouraged OhioLINK to explore a deal with Cambridge in that this is the first time that Cambridge has expressed in interest in working on anything closer to OhioLINK's terms.
OSUL encouraged OhioLINK to explore an EJC deal with Taylor & Francis (slide 11).
Aside from some questions about interest in Wilson Art Retro (slide 17), for which there will be a survey (and I'll consult with Amanda about this), there were no real action items. CIRM is scheduled to meet in person on 5 March.
