Discussion of the fund re-allocation report. The report is posted on the W: drive in the CAC space. Related to the discussion (in Bracken's opinion) is Joe's request to charge a CAC group to assess funding for chemistry. Bracken excerpted this for you on 7.26.05:
It is in this context that the library and the Chemistry Department will have to make hard choices about acquisitions of chemistry information. During the next year I am asking Mr. Diaz and our collection management staff to prepare an analysis of our chemistry collection and current acquisitions. Do we allocate an equitable amount of funds to chemistry? How can chemistry add new titles to the library collection? Are there current subscriptions to titles in chemistry that can be cancelled (beyond the journal cancellation project done last year)? Are there any other sources of support for chemistry information? You can help Mr. Diaz and the library answer these questions, and we will work together to free up committed funds or identify new sources of funding to add the two databases you recommend.
Can we use the opportunity to do this report and others of this sort as a way to advance the fund re-allocation project?
Discussion of the fund re-allocation report is in preparation for the 17 August 2005 Collection Managers Forum. Other items on that CMF agenda: Sally Rogers has asked for time to (a) talk about directions we are going with implementing III's Millennium Acquisition system and potential impact on TS workflows and output; and (b) talk a bit about the changes we are making in IT. The majority of the CMF meeting will relate to the fund re-allocation report and how collection managers want to proceed.
