Meeting schedule
The July CAC meeting is cancelled. Because of the changes in the University Senate and Library Faculty meetings, CAC may need to change its schedule. Discussion of changing the meeting schedule for future CAC meetings was initiated and meetings will be held on the second Thurs of each month from 1:30 - 3:00.
Materials budget - Review of requests for permanent additional funding
The meeting agenda centered on a continuing discussion and suggestions for the materials budget. Prior to a re-examination of CAC’s individual (fund) recommendations, Carol brought the committee up-to-date on various issues that affect funding in general in the foreseeable future. Among these issues are the consequences of OhioLINK budget difficulties and cancellations of database with high cost per use and the continuing discussion and examination of paper-microform-electronic formats and how they impact the budget (i.e., the serials’ budget).
Given certain vagaries of the developing university financial situation and while there are no ‘hard’ figures as yet, it is/will be Carol’s recommendation that any additional funding be considered "one-time." CAC understood and agreed.
CAC considered three different levels of funding based on the earlier examination of fund-managers’ reports (and requests) and CAC’s own preliminary recommendations based on those reports/requests. In general, CAC recommended supporting all the requests for additional funding made in "1" funds, though not necessarily for the full amount requested. Changes/additions to programs as well as the history of the funding were among the factors carefully considered.
Recommendations were also made regarding additional serial funding for several collections. Much discussion ensued as to the best way to accomplish the additional serial request funding. Carol will consider the discussion, ramifications of different kinds of decisions, and make final recommendations to Joe Branin.
