Collections Advisory Council
Meeting Summary
February 14, 2002
Present:: C. Diedrichs, P. Matejic, L. Krikos, S. Wyngaard, L. Hartel, P. Pearson, B. Leach,
M. Scott, M. Donovan, T. Davis, N. Courtney.
- CAC approved two requests from MUS to buy retrospectively in Music and Dance. These requests were made during last fiscal year’s special funding review but were not funded at that time.
- No CAC meeting will be held in March. The Next CAC meeting will be April 11th at 1:30 PM in room 102 Main Library.
- Nancy Helmick has requested an opportunity to meet with Collection Managers to discuss the reports she provides on a regular basis. CAC suggested scheduling her as a presenter at the next Collection Managers’ Forum, with an optional brown bag lunch following the Forum for those collection managers who want an opportunity for a more detailed or specific discussion with Nancy. Date to be announced.
- The Humanities serials fund was examined. C. Diedrichs suggested using funding saved from the UND budget to meet the budget reduction goal on this fund. Linda Krikos will finalize recommendations on the Humanities serials list by 2/20/02.
- C. Diedrichs will have specific information on OhioLINK database expenditures after the next CIRM meeting on 2/21/02.
- CAC discussed the previously distributed list of possible CRL acquisitions. C. Diedrichs will check the list against our holdings and cast OSU’s vote.
- A discussion took place on the draft policies proposed by Marsha Hamilton concerning pre-1900 imprints. Two issues were identified: technical services’ work flow and collection policy issues. CAC agreed that discussion would continue on these topics with revised documents to follow.
- C. Diedrichs brought to CAC’s attention the fact that the existing OSUL storage policy was written in 1988 and is very out of date with today’s remote storage issues and concerns. C. Diedrichs will consult with J. Branin about the time to examine and rewrite the policy. C. Diedrichs has seen some guidelines from other academic libraries that would help us in revising our storage policies.
- The issue of serials labeling in STX (for titles cited by page number) was referred to the Technical Services Committee for further discussion.
- The group discussed the suggestion to use wooden blocks on stack shelves to indicate that a subscription for a print edition has been cancelled because the title is available electronically. Everyone agreed that this was a low-tech solution to a high-tech situation, and that it would be better to indicate this information in the catalog record display.
Respectfully submitted,
Susan Wyngaard
REMINDER: NO CAC MEETING IN MARCH. NEXT CAC MEETING WILL TAKE PLACE APRIL 11th at 1:30 PM IN ROOM 102 MAIN LIBRARY.
