Marsha Hamilton talked about changes coming to GOBI in the coming year. These changes will be on-going. We hope the Ajax software will be more intuitive. There will be no panel on the left. The change should greatly speed up response time. Tech services will be doing extensive training workshops.
Marsha Hamilton next talked about Springer e-books. It looks like OhioLINK has the necessary financial commitment to go forward with the deal, which will include 2005, 2006, and 2007. Tom Sanville thinks Springer is the Elsevier of e-books. We will have access via the Springer web side until OhioLINK can load onto their server. Chapters will be in PDF, but OhioLINK is hoping to change that to XML.
Trisha Davis discussed the E-Reserves office. E-Reserves is now part of the Serials and Electronic Resources department in Technical Services, having been transferred from Circulation. Trisha discussed how the E-reserves office's work involves copyright issues concerning faculty on campus. Two universities, including Cornell University, have law suits pending against them for copyright infringement. OSU hopes to avoid similar suits. They are getting e-reserves into Carmen. It has been a very long, tedious process.
The E-Reserves office will remain in 002 SEL. Any questions should be sent to J. R. Murphy (292-6448) or Dan Mayo (688-5849). If things are not getting resolved you can always call Celeste Feather.
The email address for questions about rights issues is libcopyright@osu.edu.
Tschera Connell reported that data is coming in to the Knowledge Bank from many different sources, such as faculty awards and other materials from the Vice Provost office. They are working hard to meet OAA standards and requirements. They are working in metadata. She also discussed OSU:pro. Library faculty will need to submit CVs in OSU:pro. Training on this has begun. She talked about putting a periodical in the Knowledge Bank. They are doing this with DSQ: Disabilities Studies Quarterly, which is a society publication. Parallel publishing was also mentioned.
Sally Rogers from the Technical Services Division demonstrated the Technical Services Request Form (located at http://library.osu.edu/staff/techservices/TSservicerequest.php). This is to be used for cataloging problems and other issues, NOT to order items. The form is being managed by using email. The contact for questions is Henry Griffy at 247-4663.
Marsha Hamilton ended the meeting with an explanation of the new location codes. Use mais for all circulating materials, mic for microforms, thor for video, cd, or dvd. Marsha and Nancy have developed a spreadsheet with fully detailed guidelines. According to Jennifer Kuehn the “Library has” still contains the old codes.
The meeting was adjourned at Noon.
