Course Enhancement Grant Proposals (Nancy Courtney)
- 26 course proposals submitted; 8 selected for funding, using criteria dtermined by the committee
- 5 proposals referred back to the applicants, who were encouraged to meet with their collection manager and discuss current options available
- All proposals will be put in shared server space as PDFs so that collection managers will see what kind of work is being done in their areas
- Winners will be posted on OSUL website after the award date of March 31
ORTS via Millennium Acquisitions (Marsha Hamilton)
- Training began on the revised ORT process, but was halted, due to technical difficulties
- Training is back on! 4 sessions next week in room 122 (2/20, 2/21, 2/22, 2/23)
- After Feb. 28, when the new system comes up, one will not be able to do ORTs using Telnet
- NOTE: These changes are for the ORT process only; do not impact GOBI, Harrassowitz, Aux Amateurs, etc.
Brief overview of Millennium in CIRC mode (Tony Maniaci)
- NOTE: an idle screen goes blank, must wait until it “revives” after jiggling the mouse
- Tabs on the left for barious functions (INN-Reach = OhioLink related)
- Can set staff initials for a session, so that authorization doesn’t have to be repeated for every action (just be sure to log out when away from the PC)
- Lots of questions about PCs dying/locking up in the process (functionality improves/speeds up with each new release)
- Mag stripe reader works best for barcodes
- Red tabs indicate a "problem" with a patron record: overdue, fine, hold waiting
- On checking in items: Note the check-box for printing receipt (must ask patron first, or option is lost)
- On searching:
- Note that once you select a limit on a search, it may remain until cleared (check box for this)
- May select more than one limit on a search
- Overdue notices
- OSU-14 days after due date (This # days selected back when all paper notices sent out)
- OhioLink-day after item due
- Discussion about recalls/fines/notices
- Desire to revisit the topic
- Make Library look friendlier, more considerate in preventing $10 per day fine
- Options for internal use (Intl use, copy use, Iuse3 )
- These may be used as desired
- Each location decides
- Another issue under discussion: Ability to request pick up anywhere for OhioLink books
- Important demo on missing item procedure
- Don’t just change status to missing
- To put on hold for patron, if requested, select “place hold and change status to missing”
- Thus the item gets on the list and is looked for
Guidelines for the Withdrawal of Library Holdings (Jim Bracken)
- Revised document at: http://library.osu.edu/staff/techservices/withdraw.php
- Proposal-no longer such stringent requirements for withdrawing the last copy at OSU
- Collection manager would be responsible for decision making
- Collection managers know their discipline; know what really is not worth keeping (esp. added editions)
- Concerns about relying on OhioLink for last copies, esp. if OSU is research institution
- Should we handle last copies in a special manner (rather than permit ready circulation)?
- Suggestion: If relying on a last copy in OhioLink, communicate with the CM at that institution, to put a note in their local item record that it is the last copy in Ohio and should be kept, for when they are reviewing and weeding their collection
- Question: When/how do we evaluate what is now in the Depository (some of which is duplication and could be deleted)
- Should a 3rd module have even more restrictive guidelines? (CMT now will allow 2 copies in STX, but no more)
- What about material that does not fall directly under a CM-that still referred to AD for CD?
*** The document under discussion has changed only in that CMs are given the control/responsibility.
