Document: Reinstatements to OSCAR P.3
Date: 2001 Feb. 15 rev. (Issued June 6, 1994)
Revised by: Cataloging Dept. (nvp)
Definition: A reinstatement to the collection is the process which occurs when a cataloged
piece once owned is found but for which no record appears in OSCAR for that
work or that specific copy. A collection management decision is made that the
piece is wanted and a record must then be added to the catalog to reinstate the
material to the collection and the catalog.
2.1 OSUL locations should send monographic materials to Catalog
Maintenance, Rm. 5743 Ackerman Library, for re-cataloging.
2.2 OSUL locations should send the earliest serials issue to the Serials Cataloging Unit, Rm. 5842 Ackerman Library, for re-cataloging.
2.3 Non-OSUL locations (e.g. LAW) handle their own re-cataloging for all
materials, including update of LIB HAS statements.
With the piece in hand, logon to Felix as staff, and select Update.
Search for a bibliographic record (by call number, barcode, title, etc.)
Four basic situations are possible. If your reinstatement does not fit one of these patterns,
please contact Catalog Maintenance, in the Libraries' Cataloging Dept.
2.1 Monograph: add an item record with your location/copy information
2.2 Serial: add item record for the volume and your location/copy information;
Notify the Serials/Electronic Resources Dept. to update LIB HAS
3.1 Update STATUS field as desired (e.g. from WTH to -)
3.2 Update ICODE2 field as needed
3.3 Update LOCATION field if necessary
3.4 Notify Serials/Electronic Resources Dept., if necessary to update LIB HAS
3.5 Notify Catalog Maintenance, Cataloging Dept., by printout or email, to update
OCLC to reflect OSU holding
Follow steps 3.1-3.4. There is no need to update OCLC holding for OSU.
