Document: Key substitution phrases S.8
Date: 2001 Feb. 15 rev.
Issued by: Cataloging Dept. (nvp)
When the same information needs to be added in OSCAR to multiple records, a command can be
used to create a short-cut way to do this without re-keying in each record. Instead, an
abbreviation is used as a substitute for the text or other information to be added.
Temporary: In most cases, substitution phrases are temporary and remain valid only during a
continuous session in Felix. They must be re-input for separate sessions or users.
Longterm: If needed longterm, the Libraries' Technology Dept. can set one up as permanent
until no longer needed.
Optionally, to add or delete information from a group of records, rapid update, may be

Control Section; for serials, contact the Serials/Electronic Resources Dept.
