This is a reminder NOT to overlay a record for an ERIC document with a full bibliographic record from OCLC. ERIC records should not be edited in any way except to correct obvious typos. Other errors, including variant forms of author names, should be reported to Catalog Quality Control.
It would be highly unlikely to find an OCLC record for an ERIC document, which are always microfiche and always held by EHS. It is especially important not to overlay the record with one for print material, but several cases has been reported to me by EHS, including in these cases loss of the ERIC call number. For these, the ERIC record had to be manually re-keyed after research in the ERIC database. Most recently, one was replaced with an OCLC record for a microfilm version of the same document.
Please also note that ERIC documents are not available via pcirc and the bib record BCODE3 is always z (display in OSCAR but not OhioLINK).
ERIC documents are most identifiable by the call number is 099, which always begins with the letters ED and then digits. These are searchable in the 'other call number' index.
Other characteristics:
bib location =EHS
bib BCODE3 =z
CAT DATE =03-15-94 [if brought from LCS]
CAT DATE =07-07-77 [loaded to OSCAR, including current]
item location =ehsm1
item ITYPE =2
Older records are short and in all caps. Newer records (2000-) are fuller, including pagination, notes and ERIC descriptors. These records are loaded to OSCAR monthly, matching fiche received by EHS.
