Donna DeGeorge will send boxes of 500 books directly to Magda
Donna will not check these books out (no circulation record)
Students assistants will be working with Wilma Steele and Regina Patterson on this project.
The project consists of the following steps:
Searching books in FELIX
The catalogers will open the boxes and search for records on FELIX
If full bibliographic records are found on FELIX, students will change the call number from
EL to the appropriate LC call number
If the book is a duplicate the catalogers will put it on a separate truck for Jim Bracken to
review
If the book is poor condition, as defined in the Poor Condition Criteria," the catalogers will put it on a separate
truck for Jim Bracken to review
If the book was published before 1820, the catalogers will put it on a separate truck for Jim Bracken to review.
Catalogers will send poor condition books, duplicates, and books published before 1820 to Jim
Bracken weekly.
Jim Bracken will evaluate the poor condition books (according to the Poor Condition Books
Guidelines), duplicates, and rarity, and attach a streamer to each book with his decision
regarding location and conservation treatment.
Cataloging will forward the poor condition books to Collection Maintenance for action
phased boxing, repair, cleaning, etc.). Collection Maintenance will return them to Cataloging for
cataloging.
Cataloging will process duplicates and rare books as indicated by Jim.
For books marked for RAR (stx3) after cataloging they will be sent directly to location; if they
are in poor conditions, they will be sent to Collection Maintenance for action. These books will
not be labeled or marked. The call number will be written on a white steamer.
Before sending the cataloged items to labeling, change the status code in the item record to "p"
Searching books in OCLC for copy
If the book is in good condition and not found on FELIX (Short records only), the students will
search OCLC and export the full bib to overlay the short records in FELIX.
The catalogers will also adjust the call number to fit the OSUL shelflist.
Before sending the cataloged items to Labeling, change the status code in the item record to "p"
Original cataloging
If no copy is found in OCLC, original cataloging records will be created.
Catalogers will transfer both the library and depository barcode numbers to the new record.
Before sending the cataloged items to Labeling, change the status code in the item record to "p"
Labeling
All cataloged materials *FOR STX1 will be sent to Labeling.
After Labeling
All books after cataloging as well as after "withdraw" will be sent to Donna for reshelving in STX or for deaccessioning.
Donna will send all deaccessioning books to Jim Bracken for shipping to Kennys in Ireland.
