Classical Indexes

The major indexes in Classical Studies are published in French. Since they are primarily lists of books, papers, reviews, articles, site reports, etc., this is usually not too much of a problem. The Database of Classical Bibliography, a CD-ROM, is based on L'année and covers 1974-1989; it is available for checkout, and may or may not save you time--since you'll have to look at the print versions for everything but those fifteen years.

Abbreviations are also a problem in terms of finding journal articles. Indexes usually have a key to the abbreviations they use, but if you find an abbreviation you can't make sense of, consult the sources below.

General Indexing Sources

A wide variety of general indexing sources also cover scholarly material. Since Greek and Latin literature are at the heart of the traditional Humanities curriculum, pretty much any source which touches the Humanities also includes relevant material on classical subjects. More of these sources are available online, but you will still frequently find yourself needing to use print materials.

Newspapers, particularly historical newspapers, are often good sources of information or discussion of classical topics. Several good indexes to these are included below.
