The Jerome Lawrence & Robert E. Lee Theatre Research Institute
TRI Statement of Purpose
The Lawrence and Lee Institute collects, preserves, maintains, and makes accessible research materials pertaining to performing arts, with a primary emphasis upon live performance. The Institute serves as archives for performers, playwrights, designers, producing organizations, and theatre companies, among others. It participates in national and international organizations, prepares exhibitions of research materials, and regularly sponsors conference, symposia, and colloquia. All of the Institute's activities are intended to encourage a broad range of research into performance.
The Jerome Lawrence and Robert E. Lee Theatre Research Institute of The Ohio State University is administered jointly by the Department of Theatre and the University Libraries. The Director is a member of the Department of Theatre faculty and is appointed and reviewed annually by the Department Chairperson. The Curator is a member of the University Libraries faculty, and is appointed and reviewed annually through the University Libraries. The Curator and the Director serve in co-administrative roles, the Curator having responsibility for management of the performing arts collections, and the Director having particular responsibilities for the research and education missions of the Institute.
