I have appointed Tschera Connell acting head of the Technical Services Accounting and Administration Dept. More details on that appointment will be forthcoming in another e-mail announcement.
We are hopeful that the materials budget will not see another mid-term reduction this year. However, until further into the year, I am holding much of the discretionary money available. Once we move into the winter/spring and barring any additional "giveback" of funds, the CAC will likely offer another opportunity to request one time funds.
While this year's budget is balanced, we are unsure of what to expect in next year's budget. I will be working with the CAC to lay plans for a possible serials cancellation project for subscriptions beginning January 2004. It will be much later this fiscal year before we can determine whether such a cut will be necessary.
Most of you may be aware of the flood which struck the technical services areas last week. The carpet in 040 has now been cleaned and dried and the staff in that room are trying to recover from the unexpected need to remove everything from the room. Please bear with us as we straighten everything out; problem resolution may be a bit slower than usual. My thanks to every member of the technical services division who pulled together to make a massive and unexpected task go much easier. In particular, I would like to thank Linda Gonzalez, Deb Cameron, Jean McMeans, and the IT Dept for their extra efforts and assistance.
