| Happy New Year! EBSCO Vendor Transfer Project -- I know from my e-mails that most of the system work has been completed to move approximately 7,000 serial titles from Faxon to EBSCO. Now, we wait for the arrival of the new issues from the new publishers. There will undoubtedly be duplicates, lapses etc. but it is good to have the first stages of this project behind us. My thanks to the hard work of the Serials/Electronic Resources Dept. staff who have been working on this project for almost a year. Materials Budget -- I will be giving a presentation at the ASC meeting on Jan. 8 explaining the materials budget. I expect to repeat that presentation at other meeting in the months to come including Collection Managers' Forum, Technical Services Division meeting and at the next All Staff meeting. It is similar to the presentation and explanation giving my Linda Gonzalez about the overall library budget but focuses specifically on the materials budget. Weeding the Z collection -- As library science selector and member of SICom, I have started the process of weeding the Z collection. Initially, I am focusing on material in the portion of the call number "Z" which relates very specifically to library science. Other portions of the Zs (bibliography in particular) will require broader input and participation. My first focus is on monograph material which has not circulated; next will come backruns of serials. Material is being weeded to STX with an occasional duplicate actually withdrawn.
