- The Collection Managers' Forum was held on Sept 24. The primary agenda item was discussion of planning for a possible serials cancellation project. While the future of the materials budget is uncertain, we must lay the plans for possible cancellation if necessary. Spreadsheets, instructions etc. have been provided to collection managers and are being added to the TS Web.
Let me take this opportunity to thank the Serials/Electronic Resources staff who did an incredible job of pulling a significant amount of data and information together. Many collection managers have already complemented the dept on the spreadsheets and how much easier that will make the procedural part of the process. Of course, the hardest part is the painful decisions which must be made about possible cancellations.
- The Collection Management Team has begun to work with various faculty and staff on cleaning out the areas in the Main Library which are referred to as "Precat". Some material needs final disposition, other material awaits cataloging, other material has appeared as if by magic in the area. Once we work our way through the existing material, we will be working with everyone in the libraries to establish a process for how material is added to the area likely using one main point of contact to avoid the feeling that material is abandoned there without a plan for its processing or handling. More when we have it.
