HIGHLIGHTS - September 2000 MONTHLY REPORT
The Collections Advisory Council is beginning a review process to distribute some additional one time funds to collection managers for purchase of big ticket items or other one time purchase needs. The deadlines for submission (and subsequent review at that month's CAC meeting) are 10/5, 11/2, and 12/7.
The CAC will also be taking up the issue of cataloging web sites and possible criteria at a future meeting.
The Pinyin Conversion Working Group has submitted its interim report and things are beginning to happen on this project. Oct. 1 was the first Day One nationally for the move from Wades-Giles to Pinyin for Chinese romanization.
Good progress continues to be made in project areas within technical services. The individual dept. heads have distributed announcements of those milestones as they occur.
Finally, work continues to organize and discard material in the precat area so that it will be easier to know what is there and its status. The discarding involves old INNOVACQ equipment and financial data that is no longer required for audit purposes. Nick Felt has taken the lead on this project working with members of various TS Depts as well as collection managers. However, just as we clear space in this area, we learn of new collections which will be arriving and must be housed until processing can begin! Who said paper was going to be replaced by electronic things?
