1. The CORC Project continues. Specifically, the working group is experimenting with two new ideas. One is to have the collection manager create the record in Dublin Core or brief MARC, editing as needed. Then the record receives a very cursory review in technical services rather than an extensive review. In essence, the cataloging burden is on the selector. The second idea is to identify a way to evaluate the CORC database from a selector/user perspective. Specifically, when the product becomes available in July, is it something that OSU should purchase for internal use, extrenal use, for patrons, etc? Trisha, Tschera and I will be meeting with the Collections Advisory Council in early February to review how we might proceed to make this review of the product.
2. The Technical Services Dept. Heads and next level supervisors are involved in Process Improvement Training. This four part series will be accompanied by a project (as yet to be identified) which will allow a working group to practice/employ the techniques learned in the project to review and improve an existing process.
