To: liball@lists.acs.ohio-state.edu A number of folks have asked Technical Services about the librush listserv and its status. Background -- Many years ago, Technical Services had a sizable backlog of both Western language and non-Roman language material. In addition, at that time, the normal turnaround time for books to move through processing (includes both Technical Services and Preservation) was 4 weeks or more. As a result, we had a listserv named librush@lists which was monitored by individuals in Technical Services. Anyone looking for a title in processing could send a message to the list and someone would mount a search for the title and locate it in the processing stream. Today -- As most of you are aware, there is a very modest working backlog in Western Language material. The Non-Roman backlog is a bit larger but still significantly smaller than in the past. Material now moves through processing in a relatively short period of time. As a result, the librush list is seldom used. When a title is needed from the processing flow, most people simply contact the person they work with most in processing and ask for assistance.
Decision -- We'd now like to formalize that process and eliminate the librush listserv. In lieu of the list, please contact the person in the Monographs or Serials/Electronic Resources Dept. who you work with most often. For example, for monograph titles, the bibliographer searcher assigned to your subject area would be a logical choice. In addition, the Who to Contact List is available on the web at contact.htm. If you aren't sure who to contact, you're welcome to contact Lisa Iacobellis (iacobellis.2@osu.edu) in the Technical Services Accounting and Administration and she'll work with the appropriate folks to locate the material. We hope that this is just a formal recognition of the way the process has now evolved. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns. |
