You will recall that Jeff Calcagno met with our group last summer in Chicago to discuss his company's product for enriching catalog records. I am forwarding his update on the capability which is nearly ready for distribution which imbeds a URL for accessing the table of contents, cover image, book reviews, excerpts, and summaries. If you have questions, feel free to contact Jeff directly or send to our group address if you first want to discuss among ourselves.--Richard
I hope you don't mind this update from me regarding development work
here at Syndetics.
During our discussions with the CIC group at ALA, we indicated that our
intent was to work
toward remote access capability for the various catalog enrichment data
elements which would
directly link to a library's OPAC. That vision is now a reality though
still going through some
development as a beta version.
Clicking on the samples below, you should see an index page pop-up with
a list of the
available enrichment data for each title listed. Clicking on one of the
links will take you to the
enrichment data; you may need to reset your browser with each sample as
some browsers
have a tendency to open the same sample no matter which one is clicked.
I should also note
that we are working on an XML version of this which will allow you to
set-up your own display
as you like. We think that's where all of this will eventually end up.
Most of the major local
system vendors are now able to faciliate access to our data in this
manner. As in the past, for
search purposes, should a library also prefer to have the enrichment
data added to their MARC
records, this can still be done. Access in this manner will be provided
to academic libraries
on an annual subcription.
Richard, if you or any of your CIC colleagues have any specific
questions, I would be glad to
assist you or them. Also, if anyone will be attending ACRL, I would be
glad to meet in person
to answer questions there as well.
Best regards,
Jeff Calcagno
