Document: Calculation of estimated price for serials

The guidelines and examples which follow reflect the procedures used during the estimated price project.
Status of Current Year Payment:
1. If the title has been paid in the current fiscal year, the actual inflation factor is already reflected in the payment. This amount is the accurate eprice.
2. If the title has not been paid in the current fiscal year, the standard inflation factor of 5% will be added to the previous year's payment.
3. All prices are rounded off to the nearest dollar.
Specific Order Types:
1. For order types "b", "q", and "s", the most recent payment line is used to calculate the reimbursement according to the principles reflected in #1 and #2 above. If the last payment was for 2 years, it will be divided in half. If the last payment was for a period less than one year, e.g. Jan.-June, it will be prorated to cover an entire year.
2. For order types "m" and "o", the frequency of the title is irregular. The estimated price is figured by averaging the payments for the past 5 years.

1. Tristania (o1002958) -- order type is "s"
Payments:
1986 $8.00
1988 v.13 $5.00
1988 v.13 added charge $17.88
Estimated price calculation:
not paid for 2 years
last complete year paid was 1988 at $22.88
add 5% inflation because not paid in current fiscal year ($1.14)
estimated price equals $24.02 rounded to $24.00
2. Popular Science (o1002600) -- order type is "s"
Payments:
1987 $11.30
1988-90 $36.20
1991-93 $34.97
Estimated price calculation:
last payment was for three year period including current fiscal year
$34.97 divided by 3 = $11.66
estimated price equals $11.66 rounded to $12.00
3. Damascus Road (o1001632) -- order type is "o"
Payments: no payment has been issued since the system was introduced in 1984
Estimated price calculation:
title has been in INNOVACQ for a number of years but no payment has been issued for the past 7 years
estimated price in the e price field is $0.00
no funds have been expended for this title for some time so the actual price of the title is probably not very relevant
refund will be calculated at $25.00 for all titles, domestic and foreign
4. Sportsearch (o1319243) -- order type is "s"
Payments:
1989 $88.85
1990 $89.79
1990 added charge $10.39
1991 $101.04
1991 added charge $23.50
1992 $125.76
1992 added charge $19.11
1992 second added charge $118.89
Estimated price calculation:
1992 original charge and two added charges would be added together for a total 1992 cost of $263.76
Paid in current fiscal year so no inflation factor would be added
Estimated price of $263.76 rounded to $264.00
5. Innsbrucker Beitrage zur Kulturwissenschaft (o1004773) -- order type is "o"
Payments:
1985 v.23 $80.13
1987 v.24 $79.42
1989 v.25 $105.91
1990 v.26 $82.63
1991 v.27 $136.28
Estimated price calculation:
Irregular frequency pattern -- last five years of payments are averaged
The five figures above would be added for a total of $281.22
The total divided by 5 equals an annual average price of $56.25
Title was not paid in current fiscal year so 5% inflation of $2.81 would be added
Estimated price of $59.06 rounded to $59.00
