  1. Minutes (to be taken by Tina Schneider as next in alphabetical rotation)

  2. Demonstration and discussion of the III Electronic Resources Module (ERM) (led by Trisha Davis and Rocki Strader):

Four guests from Kent State University will be joining us at this meeting because they are interested in the Electronic Resources Module that we have been testing and helping III develop.

This demonstration relates to a discussion we have begun among Technical Services department heads about the future of the catalog and how it relates to other initiatives such as the Knowledge Bank and other databases such as the one we are using to create some of the Libraries' web pages and control remote access to electronic resources. The ERM offers some new capabilities to extend what the catalog can do for us, particularly in managing information about our licensed resources.

Note of 3/10/04: Because we are experiencing a problem with the OPAC view of the ERM not working, we have suggested to KSU that they not travel to Columbus tomorrow to see the demo. We will invite them to come when this function is working again. However, for TSC we will go ahead with the demo of the staff side of the ERM and our discussion of the module and what we expect it to do for us. Trisha and Rocki will show the staff side of the module and talk about what information could appear in the OPAC.

  3. Nancy Helmick will give a presentation on Millennium Statistics that she developed for a recent OhioLINK Lead Implementors meeting.

  4. Other items as time allows - background:

    • What location code to use for streaming videos. we use www for databases and web sites; wwb for books; wwj for serials. Are we wanting to proliferate this system (e.g., wwv for streaming videos)? Currently OSUL Technical Services is using www with the understanding that we may need to rapid update the records for streaming videos to a different location code.

    • To assess the effectiveness of current communications (e.g., web site, e-mail, printed reports, meetings, etc.) from OSUL Technical Services to other libraries, departments, and individuals, I would like to develop a brief survey to find out which TS communications are considered essential, useful, not really used, desirable but currently not being provided, etc. I would like to have 3 TSC volunteers (1 from HEA, Law, or Regional; 1 from OSUL public service area; 1 from OSUL Technical Services) work together to draft some questions that could be tested against and refined by others on TSC before widely distributing the survey. Who would be willing to volunteer?

  5. Next meeting - May 13, 2004, 10:30 to 12:00
