The workshop is offered in two parts--the first part covers a basic introduction to the identification and output of a file of OSCAR records that meet identified criteria (ca. 1.5 hours) and the second portion covers more advanced features. Included in the second part are the following: ability to output search results in a spreadsheet; how to remove a group of records; how to take possession of a file; how to use the statistical reports feature. An introduction to the new web-based version of the Library of Congress Classification schedules (previously available as the CD-ROM product, Classification Plus). Updated weekly, these schedules will always provide the user with the most current, accurate information at the mere click of a mouse. Click! is a series of technology training sessions, open to all OSU Libraries' faculty and staff. The sessions will cover technology topics including blogs, SecondLife and social networking sites. Attendees will get a background of each topic and learn how they might be useful for libraries, in library work and for our patrons.

Two workshops on the Eudora e-mail software have been developed for OSUL employees. Eudora 1 provides a basic introduction to the product, covering setup options, and details on sending and receiving messages. Eudora 2 covers such concepts as setting up an address book, using signatures and stationery, and creating filters. Contact a member of the Training Advisory Council for further information.

This is a tour of the Technical Services Division and the Labeling Section of Collection Maintenance which follows the work processes involved in the acquisition, cataloging, labeling and shelf-preparation of new books. Participants will leave with a better understanding of the various steps involved in acquiring new books for the OUS Libraries' collections.

This tour will provide an overview of the basic work flows involved in selecting, testing, acquiring, and cataloging new electronic resources and making them accessible to the Libraries' patrons. The presentation focuses on electronic journals and databases, and does not deal with e-books or specific software applications that may be purchased for a location in the Libraries.

LC Call Number training is available on-line via a software package called LC EASY. Anyone wishing to use the program should contact IT to have an icon placed on the Desktop.
Orientation sessions for new Libraries' employees will be held periodically during the year. New employees will be provided with a packet of information which will include an OSU Libraries New Employee Orientation Checklist, as well as orientation materials from the University.

Conducting Effective Performance Reviews will help you prepare yourself and your CCS and A&P employee(s) for the performance review, set the stage for the performance discussion, and provide guidance for the conduct of the performance review.

This workshop will help CCS and A&P employees prepare for the Performance Review. There will be a brief introduction and review of pertinent documents followed by a question and answer session on the self evaluation process.
The workshop is directed to newly hired employees and those wanting a refresher. Registration is not required, and there is no requirement to stay for the entire session.

A series of Personal Interaction Workshops has been made available to the individuals who work for University Libraries; a description of the Workshops provides additional information about this program. A two-hour General Library Orientation session is required of all new student employees. Among the topics covered are: Vision/Mission Statements, Library Terminology, Introduction to Library Locations, Proper Handling of Materials, Emergency Manual, Customer Service and Effective Communication. Students will be paid for two hours for attending the session; they will receive dated certificates to be given to their supervisors as proof of attendance and will enter the time on their timesheets for the week. Sessions are usually held during the first month of each Quarter; see the training calendars for available dates. Sessions held on Monday-Thursday during the regular academic year will be from 5:30-7:30 p.m.; Friday sessions during the academic year, and all sessions during Summer Quarter will be from 2:30-4:30 p.m. All sessions will be held in Room 122 Main Library unless otherwise noted. This workshop will include a vendor description of the equipment and its use, OSUL specific situations and needs, as well as Frequently Asked Questions. The intended audience is Libraries personnel who insert the security strips in books and journals or who respond to exit gate alarms.
