New Features in Eudora 6.2.3.4
The following are presented in order according to their location in
Tools/Options.
Signature
You now have the option to see and edit your default signature below your
message as you compose it. If not already present as the default see:
Tools/Options/Composing Mail/Show signature while composing.
Emoticons
Eudora now provides a wide selection of graphic images which you may include
in your messages. You’ll find a new button for emoticons at the end of the
message formatting toolbar. Some of the most common selections will also appear
automatically after you type the appropriate characters, such as ;) . This
feature may be turned on/off at: Tools/Options/Display/Display emoticons as
pictures
Offensive language alert
Eudora scans incoming and outgoing messages for offensive language and ranks
the messages with red hot chili peppers. This may be turned on/off at:
Tools/Options/Moodwatch/Enable MoodWatch.
Virus protection
From the Qualcomm list of features for version 6.2.3:
“Virus Protection: Eudora doesn't allow anything to run from your mail unless
you want it to, which stops viruses and trojan horses cold. Eudora also warns
users about opening potentially dangerous content.” Part of this protection is
included in the new option at: Tools/Options/Miscellaneous/Hide address
books from simple viruses In addition, Eudora will autmoatically provide
warnings when you click on a suspicious link in a message. See Qualcomm's
explanation of how
this works.
Junk mailbox
Eudora assigns a junk score to new messages. Customize this feature at
Tools/Options/Junk Mail. Note that mail that you send to the Junk mailbox
via Message/Junk or [right click]/Junk may be given a score of
100 (set this at
Tools/Options/Junk Mail Extras). If you “junk” the spam in your Inbox,
rather than just send it to the Trash mailbox, over time Eudora will be able to
recognize more of the junk mail that you receive. Bear in mind that Eudora will
not always catch the spam mail (all those clever misspellings complicate
matters), and sometimes it will junk mail that you don’t agree should be junked
(right click and select Not Junk). Make a habit of checking through the
Junk box when you check your In-box.
Mail left on server (of interest for those who download osu.edu
e-mail at home)
If you leave your mail on the server because you check it both at home and
at the office please note that there is an option under Tools/Options/Junk
Mail Extras to mark junked mail for deletion from the server. This could
pose a problem if you have Eudora set to download mail every ## minutes (Eudora
deletes marked items when it checks for new mail). You may wish to change this
option to so that no mail will be deleted from the server until you have a
chance to look it over and make that decision for yourself.
Truncated messages in Preview Pane
If you use the preview pane to check the content of your e-mail messages you
may find that the previewed message has been truncated. This is a new feature of
6.2, and not a problem. If you open the message itself the full text will be
present. To adjust this go to: Tools/Options/Content Concentrator
