Meeting, October 16, 2007

Present: Amanda Clark, Eboni Francis, Gerry Greenberg, Dracine Hodges, Rebekah Kilzer, Beverly McDonald, Duke Morgan (Chair)

Minutes
The minutes of the October 2, 2007 meeting were approved.
 
Diversity Committee meeting dates
Duke Morgan (Chair) is thinking about changing the frequency and the location of the Diversity Committee meetings. He would like to change the frequency to once a month instead of twice a month (unless we have something special that we need to do or discuss). He would also like to hold some of the meetings in Ackerman instead of SEL. The committee members present agreed with these suggestions. The meetings would continue to be held on Tuesdays, 1:15 p.m-2:15 p.m. Duke will email us when the new dates and locations have been confirmed.
 
Diversity Committee membership
As of October 1, 2007, the Diversity Committee has three vacancies to fill. These vacancies should be listed in today's News Notes (October 16, 2007).
 
Mary P. Key Diversity Resident Librarian
An article about Dracine Hodges, the latest Mary P. Key Diversity Resident Librarian, will soon appear in News Notes.
 
Programs for the upcoming year
Duke is talking to various groups (e.g., Women's Studies, Latin American Studies) about the possibility of having workshops in which the groups give the presentations and the Diversity Committee sponsors the workshops and provides the space (for example, 090 SEL).
 
Vice Chair of the Diversity Committee
The Vice Chair of the Diversity Committee will be chosen after the three committee vacancies have been filled.
 
Annual Report of the Diversity Committee
The annual report of the Diversity Committee was presented at the Library Faculty Meeting on October 9, 2007. The name of committee member Eboni Francis was inadvertently omitted from the report. The report will be revised and Eboni's name added.
 
Article in the Chronicle of Higher Education
Dracine Hodges discussed an article on diversity in the latest online issue of the Chronicle of Higher Education. Beverly McDonald will route the information to the committee members.
 
Next meeting
The date and location of the next meeting of the Diversity Committee have yet to be determined.
