Minutes
The minutes of the May 8, 2007 meeting were approved as written.Diversity Committee membership
Cyndi Preston finished her term on the committee at the end of June and has been replaced by Gerry Greenberg. Wendy Adcock resigned her job at University Libraries last winter and left the committee; we decided at the time not to fill her position. Eleanor Block, the former Chair, retired effective September 1, 2007 and Charles Smith resigned from the committee October 1, 2007. After discussion, it was agreed that we should try to fill all three vacancies now. Duke Morgan will see that the vacancies are posted in News Notes.
Mary P. Key Diversity Resident Librarian
Dracine Hodges joined the Libraries on September 17, 2007 as the latest Mary P. Key Diversity Resident Librarian. Her arrival needs to be noted in News Notes and her name added to the libdiverse list. The Committee welcomed Dracine to the Libraries and made her an ex-officio member of the Diversity Committee, beginning with today's meeting.
List of committee members
We need to update the list of committee members on our web site. Dracine should be added as an ex-officio member. For the two people just leaving the committee (Eleanor and Charles), their terms both end June 30, 2007. They will be listed as two separate vacancies with the date that their term ends so that anyone applying for the position knows how long they will be expected to serve. Wendy Adcock is not on the list now but her term should end June 30, 2008 (Wendy finished Virginia Reynold's term). We may want to change the date of this vacant position to June 30, 2010; otherwise, the term will last just eight months.
Diversity Committee meeting dates
We will meet the first and third Tuesday, 1:15 p.m.-2:15 p.m., October 2007-August 2008 in the Science and Engineering Library (SEL). The official list of meeting dates and locations will be sent to us shortly. The meetings will be held in Room 414, SEL unless the schedule indicates otherwise. If there is not adequate business to discuss, the scheduled meeting will be cancelled. Please be on time and notify Duke as soon as possible if you cannot attend a meeting.
Secretary
Beverly McDonald agreed to continue as secretary of the Diversity Committee.
Programs for the upcoming year
Last year the Committee presented two workshops and a ReadAloud Program. We should try to do the same this year-- planning on one presentation per quarter and working with other groups whenever we can. Suggestions for future programs will be discussed at an upcoming meeting.
