Minutes
The minutes of September 27, 2005, October 11, 2005 and December 13, 2005 were approved as written.YWCA Women of Achievement Award Luncheon
Dr. Karen Holbrook is one of the women being honored at the 2006 YWCA Women of Achievement Award Luncheon on Wednesday, April 5, 2006 at the Greater Columbus Convention Center. President Holbrook is being honored for "her commitment to the elimination of racism and discrimination of all kinds." Joe Branin has purchased a table for the Libraries. The Diversity Committee was asked to send representatives and everyone present at the meeting signed up. Duke Morgan, who missed the meeting, signed up the next day.
Meetings scheduled during religious holidays
Cyndi Preston led the discussion on the revised statement on meetings scheduled during religious holidays that she and Amanda Clark had prepared after the December 13, 2005 Diversity Committee meeting. We went through the statement line by line and everyone accepted what had been written. The statement will now be sent to Joe Branin with a copy to Linda Gonzalez as the liaison to the Executive Committee. And Marilyn Willhoff will look at the library's corporate calendar again.
Workshop on Diversity
Eleanor Block and Charles Smith attended different sessions of the Campus of Diversity Workshop last Fall. After hearing about their experiences, committee members agreed that this workshop was an important workshop that should be offered to library
employees. Because the workshop was not free, Eleanor, Charles and
Linda met with Joe Branin to discuss funding and publicity. Joe agreed to provide support and some funding. Eleanor then discovered, after many telephone calls, that the Campus of Diversity Workshop was no longer available but that there were other possibilities. Eleanor and Duke met with Patrick Hall, the Assistant Director of the Multicultural Center, and were very enthusiastic about possible presentations. Next, Eleanor and Linda (for Joe Branin) will meet with Pat Hall about having a Spring Quarter 2006 workshop on diversity. We may also want to have Mr. Hall meet with the full committee.
Diversity Committee website
Because Beth Black, the systems librarian working with the web, is new and because the web master position is on hold for now, we will postpone the work on our website.
Written reports from the residents
The next six-month written reports from the residents are due April 30, 2006. We should discuss what will happen with these reports, i.e., who will have access to the reports and in what form (truncated or full).
Next meeting
The next meeting will be Tuesday, February 28, 1:30-2:30 p.m. in Room 124, Main Library.
