Where do these reports go next? -- Put the complete reports on our website? Put condensed versions of the reports on our website? Make the information part of the annual Diversity Committee report presented at a library faculty meeting? These reports from the residents should be an agenda item at a future committee meeting.
Absent: Eboni Francis, Linda Gonzalez, Duke Morgan
Meeting times
The committee will continue to meet on every other Tuesday, 1:30-2:30 p.m. through the end of May 2006. There is no scheduling for June
2006 and beyond due to the closing of the Main Library. Please see Eleanor Block's email dated November 10, 2005 (and re-sent by Deidra Herring on December 13, 2005) for the complete list of dates, times and meeting rooms. We may decide to cancel some of these meetings, but for now they should be recorded in our calendars. The meetings will begin promptly at 1:30 p.m.; please try to be on time.
Meetings scheduled during religious holidays
The statement that Cyndi Preston and Amanda Clark prepared on meetings scheduled during religious holidays was discussed by the committee members present at the November 8, 2005 meeting. The secretary was absent and no official minutes were kept for this meeting. Linda Gonzalez submitted (via an email dated December 12,
2005) a revised statement for discussion at the December 13 meeting (which Linda was not able to attend). After much discussion about the two proposed statements, Cyndi and Amanda volunteered to prepare another statement which melds the two statements. This latest revised statement will be posted on the libdiverse committee website for further discussion.
Campus of Diversity Workshop
Eleanor and Charles Smith attended different sessions of the Campus of Diversity Workshop, which was launched by the Anti-Defamation League and Abercrombie & Fitch to promote diversity and empower faculty, staff and students. After hearing Eleanor and Charles describe their experiences, committee members agreed that this was an important workshop that should be offered to library
employees. Because the workshop is not free, Eleanor and Charles
will talk to Joe Branin, Director of Libraries, about funding and publicity. We are now planning to give this diversity workshop during Spring Quarter 2006.
Diversity Committee mission statement
Charles volunteered to work on a one-sentence mission statement which will then be discussed by the full committee.
Written reports from the residents
The Diversity Committee wants a written report from the residents every six months from the time when the residents started working at Ohio State. The first reports from Eboni Francis and Deidra Herring were sent to the Committee at the end of October 2005.
Where do these reports go next? -- Put the complete reports on our website? Put condensed versions of the reports on our website? Make the information part of the annual Diversity Committee report presented at a library faculty meeting? These reports from the residents should be an agenda item at a future committee meeting.
Next meeting
Due to the holidays, scheduling conflicts, etc., the next scheduled meeting is Tuesday, February 14, 2006, 1:30-2:30 p.m., in Room 124,
Main Library.
