To identify articles, search indexes and abstracts covering your topic.
To locate journals containing the articles, search the journal title in OSCAR or OhioLINK.
(OSCAR lists journal titles available at OSU in print or electronic form)
Indexes and abstracts relating to SEL can be found under the subject links on SEL's homepage; others can be found on the OSUL home page under "other online resources, by subject" which is The Gateway to Information.
Note:
Some indexes/abstracts can link directly to full text of journals. Some indexes/abstracts can "check availability" of print copy of the journal by linking to OSCAR and OhioLINK. OSCAR and OhioLINK list titles of journals; not titles of articles. Although indexes/abstracts and electronic journal text are delivered via Web, use is licensed and paid by the OSU libraries.
For detailed steps on identifying articles and locating journals, see Locating Articles via a Citation
What are serials, magazines, and journals?
A serial is any ongoing publication issued at intervals, such as a magazine, a periodical, or a journal.
Magazines are intended for a general audience; written by staff and invited authors; and contain advertisements and illustrations (ex: Time, Newsweek, Vogue).
Periodicals are similar in style to magazines, but are targeted to a specific interest group (ex: Physics Today, Popular Science, Aviation Week and Space Technology).
Journals are directed toward a scholarly audience, are written by experts in the field, contain peer-reviewed articles with bibliographies, and have little or no advertising (ex: Journal of Molecular Spectroscopy, Physical Review B, IEEE Transactions on Computers).
