SPECIAL   COLLECTIONS   CATALOGING   (SCCAT)

Special Collections Cataloging Department
Quarterly Report: July - September 2005

ARV

Beth cataloged new OSU oral histories, and passed information along for Knowledge Bank submission. This workflow appears to be going well.

CGA

Pat continues to create collection-level records for CGA, including links to database search sets or other documentation as appropriate.

Anca cataloged another batch of serials in foreign languages.

Mary completed cataloging the Mary F. Gau/Kevin Wolf collection. She worked on refreshing the training of the comic book cataloging student, after the summer hiatus.

CHA

Pat added new fiction titles which are coming through the approval plan. This workflow will likely serve as a training set for a new GAA. He also cataloged about one hundred titles from the Nathanial Hawthorne collection, which are being prepared for the move.

Joan began creating BIBCO records for Charvat project (1926-1950) records as appropriate. She also cataloged non-BIBCO materials for the collection. Suzanne also worked on Charvat, after refresher training with Mary.

Mary cataloged project books, worked with Joan and Suzanne on training and review, and created over fifty new authority records.

HIL

Suzanne cataloged Slavic materials from the E. Kasinec collection.

RARE

Pat cataloged manuscript collections to allow transfer of boxed items for the move. He also added items for the Irish collection and the Barres cookbook collection. He cataloged books and serials from the Avant Writing collection and some 19th century backlog materials. In addition, he worked with Rare staff to resolve title/volume problems for science fiction serials being sent to STX3, a workflow that requires continual refinement.

Anca cataloged materials from the Rare backlog, including some Cervantes titles, and some new receipts. Beth also cataloged backlog materials, mostly radical newspapers, adding serial bibliographic records so Rare staff could add item records.

TRI

Joan is near the end of cataloging the eight boxes of the Touring Company Script Collection. She worked on ongoing French and Dramatists collections and miscellaneous high priority items.

Anca finished cataloging the 18th/19th century English and American playbills. This was a long-term project. All were original records, including access points for actors, dancers, singers, directors, theatre names, etc. Overall, she created twenty NACO records, mostly for prominent actors. She also cataloged scripts from the International Centre for Women Playwrights as they arrived in TRI. She began work on a new batch of the French play bound-with volumes, discovered from the Rare backlog.

Beth met with Nena and a TRI GAA to plan revision of card file metadata from 2002 outsourced retrocon project.

Other activities:

Beth is chairing the search committee for Systems Librarian, as well as participating in ongoing renovation planning.

Problems with statistics gathering resulting from migration to Connexion should be finally resolved.
