Actually a compilation of statistics rather than a dictionary. Valuable
for its coverage of dates in the Nineteenth Century. Published in Great
Britain and covers statistics for European countries, U.S. and sometimes
countries in other parts of the world. Statistics are arranged alphabetically
by specific subject - accidents, age, crime, debt, drunkenness, eggs, fires,
insane, etc. Also has broad as well as specific subjects. Statistics are
retrospective and go back to the early 1800s and even the 1700s. For example,
has German educational statistics for 1876. Has very detailed subject index
with entries such as Scarlatina, Rothschild loans, robbery, serfs, etc.
Unique for this period. Supplemented by New Dictionary of Statistics.

This valuable annual report, in two volumes, is a "compilation of wages in commercial
countries from official sources." General tables give wage rates for 4,500 occupations from
blacksmiths to weavers and glass wrappers in U.S. states and in foreign countries. Includes data
from 100 foreign countries all over the world from Algeria to Venezuela. Gives lowest, highest,
and average wage rates. Also includes list of U.S. and foreign sources from which data were
compiled.
